Join us for a free event exploring the incredible life and legacy of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges.
About the show
Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was a French classical composer, virtuoso violinist, a champion fencer, and conductor of the leading symphony orchestra in Paris. His legacy has long been overshadowed by systemic racism and historical erasure, but recent interest is helping to return him to his rightful place in music history.
We are rediscovering how Chevalier’s unique identity as the son of an enslaved African woman and a French plantation owner shaped both his career and his legacy. His influence rippled through the French Enlightenment, touching everything from concert performance to political revolution.
