Theatre West presents Storytelling Hour

“Get a Book, Give a Book”

A storytelling event featuring a reading of Casper, the Rescue Dog, performed by Pamela Najera and Bryan Siu.

When Angie sets out with her parents to get a pet dog, she finds a “rescue dog” named Casper and learns the true meaning of the word “rescue.”

Love at First Mutt animal shelter will be present to speak about their shelter and rescue dogs.

This Storytelling Hour event was made possible by a generous grant from the Leo Buscaglia Foundation.

Admission is Free

The event is free, but reservations are required.

Each child will receive a copy of the children’s book Casper, the Rescue Dog, and an extra copy to give to a friend.

Adults will not receive a copy.

Dr. Meg Palisoc & Casper
Dr. Meg Palisoc — Writer

Dr. Meg Palisoc is a former elementary school teacher and a nationally recognized education leader with experience in both higher education and K–12 school settings. She has had the honor of working with thousands of students from kindergarten through college. Even as a little girl in elementary school, Meg loved writing stories about animals. This is why she is especially excited to share her first published children’s book about her rescue dog, Casper. Follow Casper at caspertherescuedog.com.

Pamela Najera Michael — Performer

Pamela Najera Michael is a performer and storyteller originally from the Philippines, now based in California. After beginning her career in health care, she transitioned into the arts, where she found her voice as a creator and solo performer. She is the writer and performer of the acclaimed one-woman show Too Old Too Asian Too Short, featured in multiple Los Angeles theatre festivals. Pamela is passionate about connecting with audiences through meaningful and imaginative storytelling. Today, she’s excited to share that spirit with young listeners through this reading of Casper, the Rescue Dog!

Bryan Siu is an eccentric, multifaceted performer and storyteller who is ecstatic to be performing in Casper, the Rescue Dog! He would like to thank Meg, Dina, and everyone involved in this event, and he is grateful for the opportunity to create joy among the audience while contributing to a positive cause.

Dina Morrone is thrilled to be presenting this first-ever children’s storytelling event at Theatre West. John Courtney — Musician

John Courtney is an Austin-born composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist now based in Los Angeles. He previously wrote, recorded, and toured with the band Los Coast, and now works primarily in film scoring and other music for storytelling. He is also the dad of a young daughter, has three dogs, and is a lifelong animal lover.

Sarah Acuna — Stage Manager

Sarah Acuna is delighted to return to Theatre West and be part of the “Get a Book, Give a Book” storytelling team for Casper, the Rescue Dog! Sarah’s current Theatre West mainstage work includes Cassatt. Previous work includes My Uterus: A Womb with a View, Broadway Bound, Sleighful of Songs, Hughie, and Guys and Dolls Jr. She holds a BA in theatre from California State University, Northridge. Sarah is deeply grateful for the unwavering support of her friends, family, and her dog, Milo.
