CELEBRATING OUR HISTORY On September 13th we celebrated 50 years of supporting artists and impacting the community.Television Hall of Famer Norman Lear attended our Anniversary Gala and joined two time Academy Award winner Sally Field in presenting the inaugural "Bettys." Supporting Artists Theatre West is a democratic artistic cooperative dedicated to the artistic growth of its members. We offer five free workshops a week in Acting, Writing, Shakespeare, and Musical Comedy. "Were it not for Theatre West and the workshops and encouragement they provide, The Women of Spoon River: Their Voices from the Hill would never have happened." -Lee Meriwether Producing Award Winning Plays Theatre West is an internationally acclaimed non profit arts organization. Our productions have toured both sides of the Atlantic, including the Edinburgh and Dublin Festivals, New York City, Atlanta, South Carolina, Seattle, San Francisco, and throughout California. Over the years Theatre West's plays have transferred to Broadway (Spoon River Anthology, Aesop in Central Park) and to feature films (A Bronx Tale, Faithful). *Ovation Nomination for Best Play * Introducing Children To Theatre Storybook Theatre, founded by Lloyd Schwartz and Barbara Mallory Schwartz, has been presenting children's plays for over 25 years at Theatre West. Storybook has won over 34 Valley Theatre League Awards, LA Parent has called Storybook "the best children's theatre in the city," and LA Magazine says it's "one of the 200 reasons not to leave LA." Storybook Theatre's interactive, non-threatening musicals are a perfect introduction to the theatre and always mix fun audience participation with valuable lessons. Impacting Community Theatre West partners with schools to bring theatre professionals into the classroom to use theatre as vehicles to teach storytelling, drama, reading, English, and language skills.
